"More aspects of fun activities than teaching conversational english"

Amanda Jüngling, student from Switzerland

I have been on a two-week-day camp course plus intensive course.
Organization seemed to be very spontaneous and "on the spot", without plans for more than a day in advance.

The first day of teaching was a short test for english level and expectations, but besides that completely useless and would have been a lost day if it hadn't been for the single lesson intensive course.

I didn't get well around with my regular teacher who seemed to openly dislike me. Although my father complained and told several members of staff including Sebastien (who called himself main organizer) on Tuesday, and a swap to another group had been promised, nothing happened. Most pupils in my group came from Spanish speaking countries and were at a very lower level than myself. The second week was no better.

I didn't learn anything during the regular day classes. We played a lot kahoot! every single day which was kind of fun but not very instructive, being on low level. We do this at my regular school at home at a higher level. I didn't learn any new vocabulary during the two weeks, which was sad and disappointing to me. The teacher(s) did not adapt to our needs and did neither ask nor listen. There were group activities which were not grouped to levels within the class, so I had to join (very nice) Mexican girls with very little english foundations so group work on a project as intended was not really possible.

The only bright side of the course were the 1-hour-intensive teaching courses every day. This means 40 useless hours in two weeks vs. 10 hours of what I had expected. Not an impressive ratio.
By the way, the intensive course was like normal teaching in my english classes at home, not "more intensive". But the teachers *asked* what we would like to improve and *adapted* their teaching accordingly. Why could this not have been alike for the whole day??? I would have expected the same for the teachers for the rest of the day. Very disappointing indeed.

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

If you are studying in the UK for over 11 months, you will receive a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) that you need to submit to the UK embassy along with your General Student Visa application. Students who have successfully booked a language course and have paid their fees will receive a CAS from ALPADIA. Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.

If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa. As a student visitor, you will not be able to work part-time while studying. If you plan to study in the UK for 11 months or less, a letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you.
