Students studying at an English school in Silicon Valley will be located in the southern part of the San Francisco Bay Area in Northern California. The term for this area originally referred to the region's large number of silicon chip manufacturers, but now refers to all the high-tech research and business that goes on in this area. Companies like Kodak, Hewlett-Packard, and General Electric were the first to take up residence in the valley in the 1950's in an area called Stanford Research Park. These companies paved the way for other tech giants like Google to move in years later. Needless to say, if you study English courses in Silicon Valley you'll probably leave with a lot of technology vocabulary as well! San Jose, which is the self-proclaimed capital of Silicon Valley has some great museums, theaters, and event venues to enjoy during your stay, and the nearby Santa Cruz mountains are a great place to get back to nature on a day or weekend trip.
