More about studying in Johannesburg »
Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa and the provincial capital of Gauteng. The city and metropolitan area surrounding it, is one of the 40 largest metropolitan areas in the world. It is home to many important aspects of South African government, economy, and culture. Almost 4 million people live in Johannesburg, and most of them also work in this thriving city as well. It is located in the more northern portion of South Africa, situated essentially in the middle of the country. The city has a yearlong subtropical climate, with the peak of their summer occurring in January and the lows of their winter occurring in June. Interestingly enough, although Johannesburg has fairly dry weather due to its altitude, it is also home to over 10 million trees and currently has the largest manmade forest in the world! Students interested in English school in Johannesburg will enjoy spending time in such an integral city for the country of South Africa. Some of their English courses in Johannesburg may even go into detail about what an important role Johannesburg has played in shaping modern day South Africa. While students are exploring the city during their stay here, they will find many beautiful displays of architecture, many parks and gardens, and could even take some time to explore “Soccer City” the largest stadium in South Africa and home to the 2010 FIFA World Cup. No matter what interests the students that visit Johannesburg, there is something to do for everyone in this large, important, beautiful and vibrant city.
