Course description

IELTS Academic Test

The IELTS Academic test is for people applying for higher education or professional registration in an English speaking environment. It reflects some of the features of academic language and assesses whether you are ready to begin studying or training. It is accepted by many universities and registration bodies in New Zealand and overseas.

IELTS General Training Test

The IELTS General Training test is for those who are going to English speaking countries for secondary education, work experience or training programs. It is also a requirement for migration to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. The test focuses on English survival skills in broad social and workplace contexts.

We match students and families and provide ongoing support and communication between you, the family and ETC. There are a variety of families available; with young children, teenagers, older couples with grandchildren who visit, some have pets and some don’t. All our families have been selected because they want to welcome you into their home and family and make your stay in New Zealand wonderful.

Our families are Police checked for your security and ETC Homestay Coordinators contact you regularly to ensure you are happy. New Zealand homes are usually stand-alone homes surrounded by lawns and gardens. You will have your own room with a warm comfortable bed and study space. The living areas and kitchen are where New Zealand families socialise together.

Three meals a day are provided and we encourage you to talk to your homestay hosts about your food preferences as they are happy to make sure you get the food you like. Washing is done in the home and most homestay families are happy for you to either have your clothes washed with the families or, if you prefer you can wash your own separately.

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

Your letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you. If you wish to receive your paperwork by express mail, you will be charged NZ$ 50 when you register.

Flights and airport transfer

Please note that we do not book flights for our students. If you are researching airfare costs, we recommend using Kayak.com, a search engine that lets you compare flight options from your home country to Palmerston North based on your budget, schedule and preferences.

Travel insurance
