The Canterbury summer school is not based on just one campus. There are different residences which have their own character and specifications. Generally there are two types: CATS College residences and University residences. All of our residences offer en-suite or private bathroom facilities. All sites have wifi and laundry facilities and are staffed by our own Stafford House and CATS College staff.
Breakfast is either at the CATS cafeteria or the residence. Weekday lunches are either at the CATS cafeteria or Canterbury College cafeteria. Weekend meals are at the CATS cafeteria.

CATS COLLEGE RESIDENCES

Most of the CATS residences are in New Dover Road, with one other on nearby Ethelbert Road. There is a mix of modern and refurbished Victorian buildings. There
is a variety of room sizes offering mainly twin, plus a few triple or quadruple rooms. There are very few single rooms available, except for group leaders. Almost all
bedrooms are en-suite with the remainder having access to private bathrooms.

Towels are not provided but bed linen are.

UNIVERSITY RESIDENCE

This modern residence is located close to the city centre and the school. Rooms are all single and en-suite, arranged into apartments of 3-7 rooms
with a living-kitchen area. Students have weekday lunch and dinner at the college and weekend meals at the CATS residence. Breakfast is at the
university residence. There are coin-operated laundry facilities at the residences.

Bed linen and towels are provided.

Residence will be assigned to students the week before departure.

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

If you are studying in the UK for over 11 months, you will receive a reference number called a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) that you need to submit to the UK embassy along with your General Student Visa application. Students who have successfully booked a language course and have paid their fees will receive a CAS from SHSH Canterbury. Please note that UK law states that a CAS can only be issued to students who intend to pursue English language studies for over 11 months.

If you are studying in the UK for 11 months or less, you have to apply for a special visitor visa called a Student Visitor Visa. As a student visitor, you will not be able to work part-time while studying. If you plan to study in the UK for 11 months or less, a letter of acceptance will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you. If you wish to receive your paperwork by express mail, you will be charged £ 65 when you register.

School location

Canterbury is in the heart of the Kent countryside, which is known as ‘The Garden of England’. This corner of England is rich in history because it is so close to mainland Europe – you will find castles everywhere you go! Paris and Brussels are just a short journey away. Our light, bright school is just moments from the centre of this medieval city, awash with history yet vibrant with student life from the three popular universities that also reside here.
