Homestays are carefully selected and offer students the opportunity to learn more about the local culture in a comfortable setting while studying English in Bristol. These homes are often between 25 - 50 minutes away from the school by public transport. Families usually offer affordable meal plans that allow you to sample the local cuisine. If you have special requests or diet restrictions (because of religion or health reasons), please let us know in advance. Your housing starts on the Sunday before your first day of class and ends on the Saturday after your last day of class, unless otherwise noted. Learn more about homestay housing
The West Country stretches from Bournemouth in Dorset to Land's End in Cornwall - the westernmost point in England. Famous for its gentle pace of life, beautiful cities, and excellent food and drink, the region has inspired some of world’s most famous writers. Jane Austen drew on her experiences of life in Hampshire to write some of her famous classics, and Dorset was the location that inspired Thomas Hardy to write his most celebrated novels. The region is also famous for its cider – many local breweries offer tasting sessions, which are not to be missed! Devon and Cornwall are popular tourist destinations for people from the rest of the UK, with their stunning coastlines, windswept moors (home to a large population of wild horses) and pretty villages. Cornwall in particular retains a distinct identity from the rest of England: it even has its own language, Cornish, which you can sometimes hear spoken. The county is steeped in legend by the Celtic myth of King Arthur: visit Tintagel, traditionally considered to be the famous Camelot of legend.
