The city of Davis is located in Yolo County in the state of California. It is fairly close to the state’s capital, Sacramento. The city got its origins from a Southern Pacific Railroad depot and was then known as Davisville, named for a prominent local farmer. The name was shortened to Davis in 1907. The city is home to the University of California, Davis. The city is closely associated with bicycling, as it is the primary mode of transportation for many residents.
