The city of Chester is located in Windsor County in the state of Vermont. It was named after George Augustus Frederick, the Earl of Chester. One of the first things that students taking English courses in Chester will notice about the town is its ‘Gingerbread Victorian’ homes. Another interesting portion of the city is the Stone House Village. The stone houses are pre-Civil War and were built with locally quarried stones. Because of its location, Chester offers easy access to the Okemo Mountain Ski Area in Ludlow. The resort has activities available for visitors year round. In the winter, visitors can ski, snowboard and ice skate. During the summer, visitors play tennis, jog, and golf. Students enrolled in English school in Chester can expect to experience warm, humid summers and cold winters. The fall is particularly beautiful with the changing of the leaves in brilliant red, orange and gold. Be sure to visit the Chester Depot, a Victorian Train Station. There are scenic train excursions available from several nearby depots, so be sure to check the schedule during your stay. Visitors to Chester will enjoy the homey, quaint feel of this south Vermont town. There are interesting shops, diners and other amenities in Chester and nearby cities. Vermont is the leading producer of maple syrup in the United States, so visitors should be sure to sample some of this local delight while they are in town.
