The HOFT Institute is located in Austin, the capital city of the state of Texas and the home of several prestigious institutions of higher education. Co-located with the Institute, the HOFT ESL student population interacts daily with US students. Each year, HOFT ESL hosts a student population from ages 14 and up who come from over 50 countries. The Institute is conveniently located inside The University of Texas at Austin’s greater campus environment and provides the ESL students with study rooms, a student break room, computer lab, and free Wi-Fi within a walled garden setting.
HOFT ESL is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET), a national organization that maintains rigorous quality standards for every aspect of an educational program from facilities through program delivery. HOFT ESL is authorized by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) of the United States Government to use the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) to issue I-20’s for students traveling to study in the United States. HOFT ESL instructs English reading, writing, listening/speaking, and grammar at five distinct levels of proficiency, taking the student from their first words in English progressively upward to the mastery level where they can read, write, and present for a university level course. In addition to English courses, HOFT ESL also helps each student to acclimate to American culture and customs. Coaching and preparing for life in America begins before students arrive in Austin. The ESL program has an average student to teacher ratio of 12 to 1 with a maximum of 16 to 1 in all components except writing which boasts a 10 to 1 teacher to student maximum. HOFT ESL’s interactive multi-media language-learning process ensures a quick acquisition of the language.

Our new and highly rated English for Health Sciences elective prepares non-native speakers for careers in the medical professions. Among other popular electives are Business English, Pronunciation/Accent Reduction, and American Culture.
HOFT ESL utilizes the Cambridge-Michigan Language Assessments English Placement Test, designed jointly by Cambridge and Michigan universities (CaMLA EPT), a widely used, well validated, and nationally recognized assessment tool for monitoring academic progress.

If you are studying full time in the United States for more than 18 hours per week, you will receive an I-20 that you need to submit to the US embassy along with your F-1 student visa application. The I-20 has a SEVIS tracking number on it. Students who wish to apply for a student visa must pay the SEVIS fee online before going to the US embassy or consulate for their visa interview.
Your I-20 will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you.
Please note that United States law states that an I-20 can only be issued to students who intend to pursue full-time English language studies. United States law does not permit students to study part-time with an F-1 Student Visa. If you are studying for less than 18 hours per week, you have to apply for a Visitor Visa (B1/B2) on your own.
